Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone

J.K.Rowling

Summary

Perhaps one of the most famous books ever, this is the first installment in the Harry Potter series, telling the story of a young boy who is living with his mean aunt, uncle and cousin because his parents died. He discovers he is a wizard and goes to a school of witchcraft and wizardry, Hogwarts where he discovers magic, things about his past and the greatest dark wizard of all time who may be at Hogwarts along side him.

What I like about this book is how there is a whole new, unique world within our world, hidden by spells and charms so as you are reading it you can picture how it could exist. What I also like is that J.K.Rowling's style of writing does change slightly over the course of the series, in the later books the story gets longer, a bit more complicated and her writing is slightly more descriptive compared to the earlier stories, it makes sense though, as in the final books the themes are darker and there are more mysteries so the writing fits with the story well.

I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars as I have re-read it many times and have enjoyed it over and over.
